November, 2003 November 3, 2003 We got to add a new behavior in CyberAgility this week -- "Love That Glove!" The goal of this behavior is to teach a non-toy-motivated dog to eagerly interact with a neutral object. Pax, however, is very toy motivated. There really is no such thing as a neutral object in his opinion. As soon as I offer it as something to interact with, he's thrilled to do so. So of course we're flying through this one. We've been working on shaping the weave poles. I'm not pushing the weaving -- my first goal is to get a solid entry. Thus far I've been working outside only, which means progress is painfully slow. I suppose I really need to drag the apparatus inside. I'll definitely do that when it starts raining again. Helix gave me some remedial steps to help with "Get Lost!" Her goal for this exercise is to teach the dog to want to "reconnect" with you. There's another similar exercise that Sue Ailsby teaches where the dog magnetically follows your eye contact. Clearly for agility Helix's concept is key. Sue's is great for competition obedience and Rally O, though, so I'd like to do both. I'm about to hop a train for Chicago and this weekend's ClickerExpo. Pax is staying home. (Sigh.) I leave this afternoon and get back Wednesday the 12th. Obviously I won't be training while I'm gone. I'll update when I get back! | Next page | Diary Home | List and Site Owner: Melissa Alexander, melissa @ clickersolutions.com |
